The Union Power and New and Renewable Energy Minister R K Singh said in a tweet that another landmark day in the history of the Indian Power Sector.
The Minister said, "Our installed Renewable Energy capacity (excluding large Hydro) has crossed 1,00,000 Megawatts. Under the visionary leadership of PM @narendramodi ji, we shall continue to be global leaders in Energy Transition."
He stated that the milestone of achieving 100 GigaWatts of installed renewable energy capacity is an important landmark in India’s journey towards achieving its target of 450 GigaWatts by 2030.

India currently stands at the fourth position in the world in terms of installed renewable energy capacity.
India stands fifth in solar energy and fourth in terms of installed wind energy capacity.
•The Union Power Ministry stated that while 100 GigaWatts has been installed, 50 GigaWatts is under installation and 27 GigaWatt is under tendering.
•The Ministry said that if large hydro is included, the installed renewable energy capacity will increase to 146 GigaWatt.

•A forecast report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) had stated in 2017 that India's renewable energy capacity will be more than double by 2022.
•India's installed renewable energy capacity in 2017 was around 58.30 GW. The Indian government had then set the ambitious target of raising it to 175 GW by 2022, including 100 GigaWatts of solar energy and 60 GW of wind energy.
•Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the Climate Ambition Summit 2020 had highlighted that India’s renewable energy capacity is the fourth largest in the world and it will reach 175 GigaWatts in 2022.
•PM Modi had also informed then that India has an even more ambitious target of achieving 450 GigaWatts of renewable energy capacity by the year 2030.
•India’s installed solar energy capacity had alone grown from 2.63 Gigawatts to 36 Gigawatts in 2020.
India is set to build the largest solar power park of 4.75 Gigawatt (Gw) in Rann of Kutch in Khavada, Gujarat. The renewable energy park will be built by NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, a subsidiary of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC).
NTPC is also developing India’s biggest floating solar plant that will have a power generation capacity of 100MW in its thermal power plant at Ramagundam in Peddapalli district of Telangana.
